KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has thanked Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Sumana Shrestha for making public the report of the Inquiry Commission on Medical Education.

Witing a post on his social media page, Thapa stated that making the report public is a positive beginning in itself, as there is a tendency to form commissions and disregard their recommendations. “Certain issues exposed in the report related to admissions, seats, and fees, etc., in medical education are under implementation after the enactment of the Medical Education Act. This needs to be made effective,” Thapa said.

He expressed confidence that actions will be taken against individuals and institutions as recommended in the report and that he would support this positive effort.

Minister Shrestha made the commission’s report public on Wednesday through a ministerial-level decision.

The government had formed the commission six years ago under Gauri Bahadur Karki, former chairperson of the Special Court. The late Dr. Upendra Devkota was a member of the commission, while Surya Prasad Gautam, then joint secretary of the education ministry, was the member secretary. It began its work on May 30, 2017.
