KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that there is an urgent need to enhance the capacity of healthcare institutions across the country.

Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Thapa said the Ministry of Health and Population had prepared a comprehensive Health Infrastructure Guidelines under his leadership. “We must improve the service delivery of our healthcare institutions. We have already developed Health Infrastructure Guidelines for this purpose. Let’s put them into action,” Thapa stressed. “These guidelines might be gathering dust at the ministry, so I earnestly request Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to take a moment to review them.”

Thapa also expressed concern over a recent attack on a healthcare professional in Kathmandu less than 24 hours after an agreement was signed to ensure the safety of healthcare practitioners. “Incidents like these happen, protest campaigns are organized, and agreements are reached. However, these agreements often remain unimplemented,” Thapa lamented. “To break this cycle, the government must fulfill the agreements signed with the Nepal Medical Association and the struggle committee formed by healthcare professionals.”
