Gadtaula first Nepali woman to become Chief Secretary

KATHMANDU: Liladevi Gadtaula has become the first woman to be appointed as the Chief Secrtary of the Government of Nepal.

A cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided to appoint Gadtaula as the position.

Gadtaula had been serving as the Acting Chief Secretary since July 15. Gadtaula initially assumed the position as the Officiating Chief Secretary as the senior-most secretary following the suspension of Chief Secretary Dr Baikuntha Aryal after a corruption case was filed against him at the Special Court.

Gadtaula was promoted to Secretary from the Judicial Service on November 12, 2020.

She is retiring from civil service on age grounds on August 31.
