FSU elections underway in TU constituent, affiliated campuses

KATHMANDU: Students from over 300 constituent and affiliated colleges under Tribhuvan University (TU) are casting their votes on Tuesday to elect new leadership for their respective Free Student Unions (FSU).

The elections, held every two years, see participation from student unions affiliated with various political parties. However, the elections have not been conducted regularly since 2008. Following 2008, the elections were held in 2016 and 2022, delayed due to disputes over voter lists and disagreements among student unions. This year, the election process has also been disrupted in 13 constituent campuses, including TU Central Campus, Saraswati Campus, Public Youth Campus, Shankardev Campus, Nepal Law Campus, Bishwa Bhasha Campus, Siddhanath Science Campus, Surkhet Multiple Campus, and Butwal Multiple Campus, among others.

Since 2016, TU has implemented an age limit of 28 years for candidates and adopted a mixed electoral system.

In 2022, elections were conducted in 50 constituent colleges and over 300 affiliated colleges.
