From budget to luxury: Chinese EVs flood Auto Show

KATHMANDU: The 2024 NADA Auto Show, which is underway, in Kathmandu is a testament to the rising dominance of Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) in the Nepali market.

The event showcases a wide array of electric cars, with Chinese brands taking center stage. The price of these cars starts from as low as Rs 1.9 million.

Among the highlights is the Zeekr X brought to Nepal by Pioneer Motors. The luxury SUV is priced at Rs 8.499 million and boasts a range of 425 km. It is powered by a 66 kWh battery that can be fast-charged in just 30 minutes using a 150 kW DC charger. Zeekr is the luxury EV brand of Chinese autmobile giant Geely.

Similarly, Deepal – an EV brand of Chinese company Changan – has introduced Deepal L07 at the Auto Show. Price at Rs 6.999 million, the car is powered by a 99 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and comes loaded with a 66.8 kWh battery pack which delivers a range of 540 km (NEDC).

Chaudhary Group has bagged the dealership of the premium Chinese EV brand XPeng in the Nepali market. The company has launched XPeng G6, a mid-size crossover, which is priced at Rs 8.499 million. It is powered by a 190 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and boasts a 66 kWh battery pack which delivers a range of 435 km (WLTP).

Similarly, Chaudhary Group has partnered with MAW to bring another premium brand Avatr in the Nepali market. Avatr is a collaboration between Chinese companies Changan, Huawei and battery provider CATL. The two companies have launched Avatr 11, a mid-size luxury crossover, in the Nepali market. The Avatr 11 has a 230 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and boasts a 90 kWh battery which delivers a CLTC-claimed range of 730 km. The car has been priced at Rs 14.5 million.

Laxmi Group has launched four models of Kaiyi in the Nepali market. According to the company, the Kaiyi X3 Pro is priced at Rs 4.696 million and the Kaiyi X3 Pro Flagship at Rs 4.896 million. Both models feature 120 kW power systems. Likewise, it has launched E-Qute models in the affordable segment. The E-Qute 02 with a 40 kW motor, which delivers a range of 200 km, is priced at Rs 1.996 million. Similarly, another variant offering 300km of range is available for Rs 2.296 million. The E-Qute 04, which delivers a range of 300 km, can be driven home for Rs 2.496 million.

MAW has presented the Dongfeng Nammi Box in three variants: E1, E2, and E3. The price of these models starts from Rs 2.999 million and goes higher to Rs 3.499 million. All three variants feature a 70 kW motor with a top speed of 140 km/h.

SPG Automobiles has introduced Jaecoo J6, an electric off-roader, in the Nepali market. Jaecoo is a sub-brand of the Chinese company Chery. The car is available at Rs 6.699 million. The J6 is powered by a 135 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor and its 69.8 kWh delivers a CLTC range of 501 km.

Shangrila Motors has introduced the Chinese EV brand Leapmotor in the Nepali market. The company has launched Leapmotor C10, a mid-size SUV, with a 160 kW motor and boasting a 69.9 kWh battery pack which delivers a WLTP range of 420 km. The car is priced at Rs 6.799 million.

Chaudhary Group has launched Riddara RD6, an electric pickup truck, in the Nepali market. Riddara is the off-roader brand of Geely. The RD6 is powered by a 200 kW motor and boasts a 63 kWh which delivers a range of 377 km (NEDC). It is available for Rs 6.3 million.

LRR Motors has introduced BAW Brumby, an electric city car, in the Nepali market. Powered by a 30 kW motor and a battery pack of 17.28 kWh it delivers a CLTC range of 205 km. It is priced at Rs 2.3 million.
