KATHMANDU: Police have arrested four Pakistani nationals on charges of bringing Sri Lankan citizens to Nepal with the promise of sending them to European countries for employment.
Police have identified the arrested Pakistani nationals as Jubair Amjad (57), Shahjehan Tanveer (42), Malik Abdul Hameed (61) and Aarif Masiha (44).
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office of Nepal Police, the Pakistani nationals were housing Sri Lankans in various hotels in Kathmandu, promising them employment in countries like Canada, Romania and Greece, among others.
The Sri Lankans have told the police that the Pakistani nationals had seized their passports and were also threatening and manhandling them.
Police rescued the Sri Lankans on Thursday.
The office has sent the four Pakistani nationals to the District Police Range, Teku, for investigation under charges of taking hostages and kidnapping offenses.
