Four new ministers sworn in

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has inducted four new ministers in her cabinet.

President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Anil Kumar Sinha, Dr Mahabir Pun, Dr Madan Prasad Pariyar and Jagdish Kharel as ministers in the interim cabinet on the recommendation of Prime Minister Karki.

The new ministers were sworn in on Monday afternoon. Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, ministers and senior government officials, among others, were present in the swearing-in ceremony.

According to the Office of the President, Sinha has been appointed as the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, as well as two other ministries; Pun as the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology; Pariyar as the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development; and Kharel as the Minister for Communication and Information Technology.

Sinha is a former Supreme Court Justice, while Pun is the chairperson of the National Innovation Center. Similarly, Pariyar is an agricultural expert, and Kharel is a media person.

Although Prime Minister Karki had earlier recommended Dr Sangita Mishra Kaushal for appointment as the Minister for Health and Population, her name has been withdrawn for the time being.

With this, the number of members in PM Karki’s cabinet has reached eight. Karki earlier told media persons that her cabinet will have a maximum of 11 members.

PM Karki earlier appointed Rameshore Prasad Kahanl as the Minister for Finance, Kul Man Ghising as the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, and Om Prakash Aryal as the Minister for Home Affairs.
