KATHMANDU: Police have arrested four individuals on the charge of kidnapping three Nepalis in Greece and collecting Rs 2.17 million as ransom from their families in Nepal.
A team of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police apprehended them from a rented apartment in Gaurighat of Kathmandu on August 19. Police also recovered Rs 2.17 million from them.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shivaraj Kunwar (32) of Dhankuta, Rameshwar Aryal (56) of Kathmandu, Prakash Belbase (32) of Kapilvastu and Dil Bahadur Thapa (42) of Parbat.
According to police, Sabitra Thapa of Morang, Kirshna Karki of Udayapur, and Rajan Satyal of Kavre had left for Serbia on May 26. They later sneaked into Greece as they were not offered pay and facilities as promised. However, a Pakistani national and his aides took the three under their control and sought a ransom of 15,000 euros from their families in Nepal.
Police launched an investigation into the case after the family members approached the CIB. According to police, the kidnappers collected Rs 2.17 million from the family of the three youths by contacting them on WhatsApp from Greece and Dubai.
Police have safely brought all three youths to Nepal from Greece.
