Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari launches book on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Kathmandu on Monday.
KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has heaped praises on Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli.
Speaking at the launching ceremony of a book on Oli in Kathmandu on Monday, Bhandari commended Oli for his role in strengthening the party by overcoming factionalism and divisions. She expressed confidence that Prime Minister Oli would further contribute to unifying the Nepali communist movement.
Recalling Oli’s efforts in democratizing the internal functioning of CPN-UML and unifying the communist movement, Bhandari said political parties must internalize democratic values and principles, regardless of the challenges they face.
“CPN-UML, which prioritizes pluralism and multi-party competition, aims to achieve political excellence and lead the government to bring about socio-economic transformation,” she said, adding that no political event or incident could destabilize the party.
Bhandari’s comments are seen with great significance as she mulls a return to active party politics. Bhandari served as UML Vice Chairperson before she was elected as the second president of the country. Some UML leaders say she is pondering contesting the position of chairperson in the upcoming general convention of CPN-UML.
