Former IGs urge PM to sack Minister Gurung

KATHMANDU: Former inspector generals of Nepal Police have demanded that the government sack Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung for abusing the chief of the police force.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the Former Police Chiefs Forum requested Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to take appropriate action against Minister Gurung for his insensitive remarks.

Former IGs Motilal Bohora, Shyam Bhakta Thapa, Kuber Singh Rana, Ramesh Chand Thakuri, Achyut Krishna Kharel, Sarbendra Khanal, Thaku Gyawali, Shailesh Thapa Chhetri Dhiraj Pratap Singh have signed the statement.

“Everyone expects honorable ministers to exhibit decorum, cultural awareness and mutual respect in their conduct. However, the use of improper and inappropriate language against the Inspector General of Police by the honorable minister has not only diminished his political stature but also discredited him in the eyes of the esteemed Nepal Police, the most active organization of the Nepal government,” the police chiefs said in the statement.

Gurung, who is also the deputy general secretary of the ruling CPN-UML, made the controversial statement at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Kaski in Pokhara, where he suggested that the “IGP’s tongue should be cut off.”
