Former DSP Thag Bahadur KC sentenced to two years in jail, fined Rs 850,000

KATHMANDU: The Special Court has convicted former DSP of Nepal Police Thag Bahadur KC in a corruption case.

A division bench of Special Court Chairperson Tek Narayan Kunwar and Judges Tej Narayan Singh and Ritendra Thapa found KC guilty and sentenced him to two years in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 850,000.

The Special Court has held KC guilty of violating Section 3 (1) (D) of the Corruption Control Act, 2002.

KC was arrested on December 6, 2022 and dismissed from the police service on July 26, 2023.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against KC, the then chief of Butwal Area Police Office in Rupandehi, at the Special Court on August 30, 2023, seeking a fine of Rs 1.8 million and jail term as per the law.

According to the charge sheet filed by the CIAA, KC had demanded money from a service seeker to return 34 tolas of gold seized near the Hatbazaar area of Butwal. The cash and the seized gold were recovered during a search at KC’s residence.
