KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairperson Rajendra Lingden has demanded the formation of a judicial inquiry commission to investigate the Tinkune incident of March 28.
Addressing a protest program organized by his party in Balkhu of Kathmandu on Tuesday, Lingden said there must be an impartial investigation into the Tinkune incident. “A judicial commission should be formed—not a commission led by the government’s loyalists, but an independent and impartial body that includes a former Supreme Court justice, civil society members and human rights activists,” Lingden said. “Let there be an investigation. Let it be known who is guilty, and let them be punished.”
Lingden also criticized the government for its treatment of RPP leaders Rabindra Mishra and Dhabal Shamsher Rana who are in police custody since the incident. “You speak of republic and democracy, but you humiliate those with differing views by keeping them in police custody—that is something we have taken personally.”
He expressed strong objection to the arrest of RPP General Secretary and Member of Parliament Dhawal Shumsher Rana.
“The way you humiliated our party’s Vice Chairperson, parading him in handcuffs for all to see—we are not discouraged by that,” he added.
Lingden also challenged the authorities to imprison all those who have dissenting opinions. “If you have detained our leader for saying that the country needs a king, then know this—we are ready to see hundreds of thousands imprisoned,” he declared. “Mark my words—prepare your jails well. That day will come.”
Lingden said the procession would come from all four directions if the party calls. “If that happened, who would you stop? Who will you shoot?” he said. “I will say again, if things don’t improve, we will revolt. I won’t say we’ll shoot guns. But we can surround Baluwatar and cut off food and water. Remember this.”
