KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Krishna Datta Bhatta, a Senior Divisional Forest Officer working at the Forest Directorate in Kailali, on cybercrime charges.

A team from the District Police Office, Kailali, arrested Bhatta from the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment of the Sudurpashchim Province Government.

Bhatta had, a few days ago, accused Sudurpashchim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah of demanding a bribe.

According to police, the arrest was made based on a complaint filed under cybercrime by Prayag Raj Khanal, the personal secretary to Chief Minister Shah.

Earlier, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment had sought clarification from Bhatta after he publicly accused the chief minister of demanding a bribe. Police arrested Bhatta when he reached the ministry on Monday morning to submit his clarification.

Bhatta had claimed in an interview a few days ago that Chief Minister Shah demanded a Rs 500,000 bribe for him and transferred him out of prejudice after he refused to pay the amount.
