Foreign Minister Sharma off to Dhaka

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Balananda Sharma left for Dhaka on Monday to attend the inauguration of the new government of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh National Party (BNP) President Tarique Rahman, who led his party to a landslide victory in the election held on Thursday, is being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Chief Adviser of the interim government of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, has invited 13 countries, including Nepal, to attend Rahman’s inauguration. Leaders from China, India, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Pakistan, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Maldives, and Bhutan have also been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony.

Issuing a statement on Monday, MoFA said the foreign minister’s visit reflects Nepal’s commitment to further strengthening relations between Nepal and Bangladesh and deepening cooperation between the two countries.
