KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba is leaving for The Hague, Netherlands, on Saturday, leading Nepal’s delegation to the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Issuing a press release on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Minister Rana will present Nepal’s position during public hearings on ‘Obligation of States in respect of Climate Change’.
The oral proceedings are being held at the seat of the Court in The Hague from December 2 to 12.
The hearings follow a UN General Assembly resolution seeking the ICJ’s advisory opinion on states’ responsibilities concerning climate change.
Minister Rana will then visit Germany to attend the Equal Rights Coalition Conference in Berlin on December 17-18, at the invitation of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. She will also hold high-level meetings with officials from Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and the European Union, according to the ministry.
Rana will return to Kathmandu on December 20.
