Foreign minister Deuba leaves for Delhi

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba left for New Delhi, India, on Sunday. This is Deuba’s first foreign visit since assuming the office of the foreign ministry.

The foreign ministries of the two countries confirmed the visit on Saturday. The Indian statement noted that Nepal is a priority partner in India’s neighborhood policy. Similarly, the foreign ministry statement said such high-level visits will further strengthen the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

Dr. Deuba is visiting New Delhi at the invitation of her Indian counterpart S Jaishankar. Although Dr Deuba was initially planning to go to New Delhi for medical treatment, Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar extended an invitation to give the visit an official status.

Dr Deuba will meet Jaishankar on Monday. She is also scheduled to meet other high-ranking Indian leaders.
