KATHMANDU: Seventy-eight foreign films grossed a combined Rs794.34 million in Npeal in fiscal year 2023/24, data released on Thursday by the Nepal Film Development Board shows.
A total of 135 films were screened in Nepal during the review period. Fifty-seven Nepali films screened during the fiscal year collected a combined Rs 767.25 million
Two films exhibited in Nepal during the fiscal year 2022/23 have grossed above Rs 170 million each at the box office. The highest earner of the year was Nepali film ‘Chhakka Panja 4’ – the fourth installment in the popular ‘Chhakka Panja’ franchise – which grossed Rs 175.29 million. Following closely is Nepali film ‘Jaari’, with a gross collection of Rs 171.79 million. The film is still running in some theatres.
Additionally, Hindi film ‘Pathan’ secured the third spot in the list of highest grossers, raking in Rs 132.80 million.
Nepali film ‘Shivani’ managed to gross only Rs 520. On the other hand, the Bhojpuri language film ‘Rishton Ka Batwara’ was the lowest grosser among foreign films with a gross collection of Rs 2,160.
