Five-member panel formed to probe Dhading bus accident

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a five-member task force led by a joint secretary to investigate Monday morning’s fatal bus accident in Dhading that claimed 19 lives.

Home Ministry spokesperson and Joint Secretary Anand Kafle said the decision was taken following a meeting chaired by Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal.

Secretaries of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport; chiefs of security agencies; director generals of the Department of Transport Management and the Department of Roads; and representatives of transport entrepreneurs and workers’ unions, among others, attended the meeting.

The bus with 45 on board met with an accident at Bhaisegauda on the Prithvi Highway in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality–5 of Dhading. The bus (Ga 2 Kha 1421), operated by Machhapuchhre Travels and en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara, veered off the road and plunged into the Trishuli River at 1:30 am.

Only nine of the 19 deceased have been identified so far, according to police.
