KATHMANDU: Five persons were injured when a passenger bus travelling from Narayanghat to Gorkha met with an accident near Ainapahara along the Prithvi Highway in Anbukhaireni-2, Tanahun, on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Armed Police Force (APF), two of the injured are in serious condition and have been referred to Bharatpur for treatment.
The bus veered off the road and got stuck on a cliff above the Marshyangdi River. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus rolled backwards and fell onto the cliff edge while the driver was attempting to move it forward from a parking spot.
Although much of the Muglin–Pokhara section of the Prithvi Highway has been widened to four lanes, the stretch between Muglin and Anbukhaireni is still narrow. This stretch sees heavy traffic and is notorious for landslides and frequent road blockages. The combination of narrow road, difficult terrain and heavy traffic makes the road prone to accidents
Twenty-seven Indian tourists were killed when a passenger bus fell from the Mulgin-Anbukhaireni stretch and plunged into the Marshyangdi River in August last year..
