KATHMANDU: Five former chiefs of Indian Army will be visiting Nepal later this week.
The former Indian Army chiefs are visiting Nepal to participate in the ‘Nepal Army Chief’s Conclave’ that the Nepal Army is organizing on the sidelines of the Army Day.
The Nepal Army has been celebrating its establishment day on the day of Mahashivaratri every year. But this is the first time that the chief’s conclave is being organized.
The conclave will feature interactions and discussions on the armies of the two countries, the world context, and other issues, according to the Nepal Army.
Army sources have revealed that the former Indian Army chiefs will inspect the special parade and other activities of Nepal Army soldiers at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel. Since the CoAS of the Indian Army is the honorary chief of the Nepal Army, the army has decided to extend invitations to the former Indian Army chiefs to its establishment day and the conclave.
Nepal and India traditionally honor each other’s army chiefs with the honorary rank of General.
Although the Nepal Army had sent invitations to the incumbent CoAS as well as 11 former CoAS of the Indian Army, only five former CoAS have confirmed their participation so far. The former Indian Army chiefs coming to Nepal include Jogindar Jaswant Singh, Bishwanath Sharma, Deepak Kapoor, Dalir Singh, and Manoj Mukund Naravane.
Nepal Army spokesperson Krishna Prasad Bhandari confirmed that the five former CoAS of the Indian Army are coming to Nepal to grace the Army Day celebrations. Likewise, military attaches from different countries stationed in Nepal will also participate in the Army Day celebrations.
“The chief’s conclave is one of the programs that we are organizing to celebrate the Army Day,” Bhandari said. “All the dignitaries will arrive by Saturday morning. They will participate in a special program being organized at the Army Pavilion on Sunday in the presence of the Supreme Commander of the Nepal Army.”
The Indian Army has been organizing the ‘chief conclave’ in New Delhi by inviting incumbent and former chiefs of the Nepal Army for a long time.
