Dummy companies used to smuggle Rs 30 billion worth of gold: CIB

KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has said that Rs 30 billion worth of gold was smuggled into Nepal through various dummy companies.

Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Monday, CIB officials said five dummy companies were used to smuggle 3,194.668 kg of gold by hiding inside different electronic gadgets and brake shoes of two-wheelers into the country. The quantity was calculated on the basis of a study conducted with the help of experts from the Nepal Electronic Technicians Society and the Central Department of Physics, Tribhuvan University.

According to the CIB, Bhujel Electric Suppliers was used to smuggle 1,303.965 kg of gold. Likewise, 632.795 kg was smuggled into the country by Hwada Electric Suppliers, 716.83 kg by Chhungak Electric Suppliers, 170.8 kg by Dolakha Electric Suppliers and 7.5 kg by Ready Trade.
