KATHMANDU: At least five people died, and 12 others were injured in a jeep accident in Gorkha district in the early hours of Friday.
The jeep, carrying 19 members of a wedding party, veered off the road and plunged 200 meters into a deep ravine at Siling in Lakhan Rural Municipality at 3 am on Friday, according to the District Police Office, Gorkha.
“The deceased include four males and one female. Their identities have not been determined yet,” said DSP Lilaraj Lamichhane. “Fortunately, two members of the wedding party emerged from the accident unharmed.”
All the injured are from Pokharidanda in Shahid Lakhan Thapa Rural Municipality-5. While Lalu Thapa has been rushed to Chitwan Medical College for treatment, Suraj Rana, Nara Bahadur Thapa, Dosh Bahadur Thapa, Hom Bahadur Rana, Sandipa Rana, Suraj Thapa, Chandra Thapa, Kul Bahadur Rana, Laxmi Thapa, Manika Rana and Pratik Rana are receiving treatment Anbu Khaireni Hospital.
The jeep was coming from a nearby Kotgaun village.
