KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has emphasized the need for a loose monetary policy.
During an interaction on the upcoming monetary policy in Kathmandu on Sunday, Mahat stated that loosening the monetary policy slightly could help invigorate the economy. He also mentioned that the finance ministry has already communicated this matter to the Nepal Rastra Bank.
Mahat further expressed that the government has been making necessary policy decisions to strengthen the economy. While several decisions have already been implemented, some are still pending, he added.
The finance minister also said rumors of the country meeting the fate of Sri Lanka hit revenue collection and other aspects. He stated, “Furthermore, the monetary policy was tightened. There are other reasons contributing to the economic problems. All of these factors have led to the issue,” he added. “Our internal decisions have also contributed to the economic problems, and now they need to be rectified.”
