KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has announced the final results of the local-level by-elections.
The by-polls were held to fill 41 positions in the local governments with candidates for three positions elected unopposed. These include two chiefs of two District Coordination Committees and one ward chairperson.
According to the EC, candidates of Nepali Congress (NC) were victorious in 17 positions – one mayor and 16 chairpersons. Similarly, the CPN (Maoist Center) won 11 positions – one rural municipality chair, two rural municipality vice chairs, one mayor and seven ward chairs.
CPN-UML came third winning eight positions – one rural municipality chair, two rural municipality vice chairs and five ward chairs.
Additionally, the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal (JSP Nepal) won two positions, while Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party were victorious in one position each. Independent candidate was elected in one position.
