FC Black Bulls lifts Pokhara Gold Cup title in first attempt

POKHARA: FC Black Bulls of Uzbekistan have lifted the title of the 24th Aha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup with a comfortable 3-1 victory over six-time champions Nepal Police Club (NPC) at the Pokhara Stadium on Saturday.

The Uzbek lifted the title in their first participation in one of the country’s prestigious knockout football tournaments.

NPC, which was playing its 11th final, had an opportunity to become the most successful club in the Pokhara Gold Cup. But the visiting side was too strong for the departmental side.

NPC and Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) have lifted the title of Pokhara Gold Cup six times each.

Jakhongir Akhmadov, Asilbek Orifjonov, and Shavkatjon Sattorov scored for Black Bulls. NPC hit one back through an own goal by Black Bull’s Alijon Alijonov.

Akhmadov gave Black Bulls the lead in the 40th minute, while Orifjonov doubled the team’s advantage in the 58th minute. Sattorov extended the lead to 3-0 in the 66th minute.

NPC scored in the 77th minute, as Black Bull’s Alijon Alijonov guided the ball into his own post.

Black Bulls defeated five-time champions Three Star Club in the semifinal, while NPC got better of Church Boys United in the semifinal.

The winning side received a prize money of Rs 1.2 million, while the runners-up took home Rs 600,000.
