KATHMANDU: The government has opened fair price shops at 63 locations across 42 districts targeting the upcoming festive season.
The state-owned Food Management and Trading Company, Salt Trading Corporation and Dairy Development Corporation are jointly operating these fair price shops.
In the Kathmandu Valley, the fair price shops have been opened at Thapathali, Ramshahpath, Nakkhu and Suryabinayak.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari formally launched these shops amid a ceremony on Thursday.
The ministry has earmarked Rs 30 million for the operation of these shops. Consumers will receive discounts of a minimum of Rs 5 per kilogram on various types of rice and lentils, and Rs 7 per kilogram on oil, legumes, flour, beaten rice, sugar, mixed lentils, Karnali beans/legumes, buckwheat, foxtail millet, proso millet, and Jumla Marsi rice.
Additionally, a discount of Rs 10 per kg will be offered on live goats, sheep, mountain goats and ghee.
These fair price shops will remain operational till January 16.
