KATHMANDU: The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives has instructed authorities to examine the roles of Minister for Labour Employment and Social Security Sharat Singh Bhandari and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala in the Balkumari incident.
Two individuals lost their lives on Friday when youths, who were barred from participating in the Korean language test for employment in South Korea under the Employment Promotion Scheme (EPS), clashed with police in Balkumari of Lalitpur on Friday.
The committee took the decision after members said the incident also occurred due to the carelessness of the two ministers. Members of the committee grilled Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Inspector General of Nepal Police Basanta Kunwar about the incident.
Birendra Shah of Achham and Sujan Rawat of Dailekh lost their lives when police used force to disperse the agitating youths. The protesters also torched the car of Minister Jwala.
IG Kunwar told the committee the situation could have been avoided if Minister Jwala hadn’t used that route on Friday.
