KATHMANDU: The Committee on State Affairs and Good Governance of the House of Representatives has directed the government to conduct a thorough investigation and initiate legal proceedings against those responsible for violent activities in Tinkune of Kathmandu last Friday.
The committee took the decision after following discussions with Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak and the chiefs of security agencies.
Speaking at the meeting, lawmakers strongly condemned the violent acts perpetrated by pro-monarchy supporters under the pretext of protests. During deliberations, committee members also raised serious concerns about the alleged involvement of former King Gyanendra Shah in the incident and called for a comprehensive investigation into his role.
The house panel also instructed the government to enforce a complete ban on all public gatherings, demonstrations and sit-ins in and around the Tinkune area to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
Committee Chairperson Ramhari Khatiwada also directed the government to allocate necessary resources to strengthen the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force to maintain the law and order situation.
