KATHMANDU: Authorities have started allowing emergency vehicles to use the under-construction Nagdhunga tunnel to move in and out of Kathmandu to bypass the section blocked by landslides.
Amit Kumar Sharma, the information officer of the Department of Roads, confirmed that police vehicles and ambulances have started using the 2.69-kilometer tunnel. “Since this is an extraordinary circumstance, we have allowed emergency vehicles into the tunnel,” Sharma said.
The tunnel links Sisnekhola of Dhading to Balambu of Kathmandu. According to officials, although the track inside the tunnel has been opened, other infrastructure is not yet ready.
