KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has claimed that elections will not be held on time because of the government.

Addressing the party’s 10th Central Committee meeting in Lalitpur on Wednesday, Oli alleged that the current interim government, formed through unconstitutional means, has not taken the necessary steps to conduct elections.

He reiterated that Sushila Karki had become prime minister unconstitutionally and that the dissolution of parliament was carried out in an unconstitutional manner. Oli argued that those who had once ruled that parliament should not be dissolved unconstitutionally have themselves acted unconstitutionally by dissolving it. “It is a regressive move,” he added.

Oli said it was unacceptable to think that the dissolution of parliament was justified, as the Supreme Court had already set a precedent on the matter.

Expressing dissatisfaction over ongoing discussions about the party’s leadership, Oli said he would not resign merely because some people are criticizing him on social media platforms. “If the Central Committee passes a motion for me to step down, I will not remain chairperson for even a minute,” he added.

Referring to recent political developments in the country, he alleged that those, who had long been saying that they do not accept parliament, do not accept the system and that the system itself must be changed, are the ones responsible for the incidents of September 8 and 9.
