Eight parties demand repoll in Gorkha; vote count affected

KATHMANDU: Counting has not begun in Gorkha yet.

Eight political parties, including CPN-UML, have demanded repolling in some polling stations, accusing CPN (Maoist Center) of booth capturing.

Issuing a joint statement, they have demanded repolling in different polling centers in the district.

Those issuing the statement include candidates of UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Paribar Party, Hamro Nepali Party and RPP Nepal as well as independent candidate Bil Tamang for the Gorkha-2 constituency, as well as the candidates of UML and Rastriya Swatantra Party in the Gandaki Province Assembly constituencies.

The ruling coalition has fielded Rajendra Bajgain of Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Gorkha-1 and Gorkha-2 constituencies, respectively.

Assistant CDO of Gorkha, Chitrangat Baral, said efforts were underway to resolve the matter by holding discussions with representatives of political parties. “Vote counting hasn’t begun yet,” he added.
