Eight left parties sign formal unification agreement

KATHMANDU: Eight communist parties, including the CPN (Maoist Center) and the CPN (Unified Socialist), have agreed to unify.

The agreement was signed on Sunday at the Maoist Center’s central office in Koteshwar, following a joint meeting of the merging parties.

According to an 18-point agreement reached during the meeting, the unified party will be guided by the principles of Marxism–Leninism, and its political program will be based on scientific socialism with Nepali characteristics. While the name of the merged party has not yet been revealed, its election symbol will be a five-pointed star.

The merging parties have agreed to form a new central committee by integrating their existing central committees on the basis of mutual understanding. The agreement further outlines that the unified party will have four main structures within the central committee: a central committee, a political committee, a secretariat, and a work coordination committee.

The merged party will organize a Unity National Gathering on Wednesday, where the formal unification decision will be announced. The gathering will also unveil the party’s interim statute, manifesto, and central committee. It plans to hold a unity convention within six months.

Other parties participating in the unification process include the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), NCP (Socialist), Janasamabadi Party Nepal, Nepal Samajbadi Party, CPN (Maoist Socialist), and CPN (Samyabadi).
