KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have arrested eight Indian nationals for allegedly operating online betting activities during the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office said the group had been placing bets through the portal betacular.live.
Police made the arrests in Balkhu, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-14, on Sunday. Fifteen mobile phones believed to have been used for online betting have also been seized.
Those taken into custody have been identified as Raja Yadula (31), Mahesh Babu (35), Pandit Shreenivasalu (30), Sheikh Shoyeb (20), Navin Maddela (30), Mohammad Rafi Sheikh (32), Sai Kumar Tammisetthi (19), and Sheik Chand Basal (28). All are from India’s Andhra Pradesh state and were currently residing in Samakhusi, KMC-26.
Police earlier detained Dilpreet Singh (28) of Haryana, India, and Rebika Singh Thakuri (24) of Bardiya for allegedly approaching players for spot-fixing during the NPL.
