Eight arrested in Surkhet for defrauding youth with fake job promises

KATHMANDU: Police in Surkhet have arrested eight individuals for allegedly running a fraudulent networking scheme that lured unemployed youths with false promises of employment and extorting money from them.

According to a statement issued by the District Police Office, Surkhet, those arrested include the promoters and staff of two companies—Sky Dream Entrepreneurs Pvt Ltd and Global Oriens Nepal Pvt Ltd

Naresh Bohora (26) of Sayal Rural Municipality-2 of Doti, a promoter of Sky Dream, has been identified as the main accused. Other arrested individuals include company manager Krishna Dhami (24) of Mahakali Municipality-4 of Darchula and staff members Kamal Shahi (24) and Rabindra Shahi (22) from Kamalbazar Municipality-6 of Achham.

Also arrested were employees Manisha Singh (22) of Dodhara Chandani Municipality-2 and Nirmala Dhami (21) of Beldadi Rural Municipality-1 of Kanchanpur; Sunita Saud (22) of Sigash Rural Municipality-6 of Baitadi; and Kamala Chimal (22) of Badikedar Rural Municipality-4 of Doti.

DSP Mohan Jung Budhthapa, the information officer at the District Police Office, Surkhet, said the group had established an office at Mulpani Chowk in Birendranagar Municipality-3 of Surkhet and was targeting youths from various districts with false job offers.

Police said the companies promised skill training, food and accommodation and lucrative job opportunities for an annual fee of Rs 20,000.

After collecting the fee, the victims were recruited into a network marketing scheme and asked to bring new members.
