Economist Swarnim Wagle parts ways with Nepali Congress

KATHMANDU: Economist Swarnim Wagle has parted ways with Nepali Congress.

Sending a message to party general secretary duo Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Koirala, and leaders Shekhar Koirala and Dr Govindaraj Pokharel on Thursday, Gyawali said he has decided to quit Nepali Congress. He has now switched off his mobile phone. Wagle told leaders he cannot continue in the party under the influence of Arzu Rana Deuba.

Wagle and Bishwo Poudel were the two aspirants considered by the party for Chitwan-1 constituency in the November 20 polls. However, the party picked Poudel. Poudel, who is close to Arzu Rana Deuba, however, faced defeat against the candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Wagle’s decision came a few hours after Nepali Congress picked candidates for the April 23 by-elections in Chitwan-2 and Tanahun-1 constituencies.

In his message, Swarnim told the four leaders that although he has goodwill towards the Nepali Congress, he has been constantly troubled by the dominating behavior of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba and the group led by Arju Rana group. He also stated that due to his age, knowledge, and energy, he cannot wait for too long to serve the people.
