KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has clarified that no political party, candidate, party cadre, or member of the public should obstruct the election campaign activities of any political party or candidate.
In a statement on Tuesday, the EC said it was monitoring election campaign activities through various mechanisms.
The EC issued the statement after many political parties and candidates complained that they were obstructed by rival parties or candidates.
“The EC’s serious attention has been drawn to reports circulating in various media outlets regarding such incidents. The matter is clearly addressed in Section 13(1)(e) of the Election Code of Conduct, 2025, which outlines the conduct to be followed by political parties, candidates, and affiliated organisations,” the statement issued by EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said.
Section 13(1)(e) of the Election Code of Conduct, 2025, states that no political party, candidate, or affiliated organisation shall disrupt or create any obstruction to rallies, mass meetings, corner assemblies, meetings, gatherings, or other programmes organised by another party or candidate.
The EC has reminded that such offences are punishable by a fine of up to Rs 200,000, imprisonment for up to three years, or both.
