EC seeks clarification from three candidates

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has sought clarifications from three candidates of the House of Representatives elections, including Janamat Party Chairperson CK Raut.

Raut, who is contesting from Saptari–2, has been asked to furnish a written explanation after a complaint was filed against him alleging that he displayed election symbols and party flags by erecting decorative arches at a public place.

Similarly, the EC has sought clarification from Khagendra Sunar, a candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) from Banke–3. According to the EC, a complaint has been lodged against Sunar, accusing him of disseminating information that could incite communal hatred regarding the national animal, the cow.

The EC has also sought clarification from Nisha Adhikari, a candidate of the Gatisheel Loktantrik Party from Kathmandu–5, for launching a fundraising campaign. A complaint filed against her states that she submitted application forms to volunteers based in Australia, along with details on how to support her campaign through a QR code.

In addition, the EC has sought clarification from a schoolteacher for soliciting votes on social media on behalf of a candidate. Devi Ram Acharya, a teacher at Deuti Basic School in Dailekh, has been told to furnish a written explanation.

The EC has also sought clarification from the Guthi Sansthan following a complaint that it was planning to dismiss a religious leader, Rinpoche, despite the election code of conduct barring such activities.

Likewise, the EC has asked the Purbanchal University to clarify why it conducted written examinations for contract-based staff recruitment after the code of conduct came into effect

All concerned parties have been instructed to submit their clarifications within three days.
