KATHMANDU: More than 200,000 new voters have been added following the announcement of the date for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5).
According to the Election Commission (EC), the ongoing voter registration and update drive—launched in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections—has seen encouraging participation, with 209,522 new voters added as of Tuesday.
The number includes 122,740 men, 86,785 women, and 27 individuals identifying as others.
The voter registration and update process is being carried out daily from 8 am to 6 pm at all seven provincial and 70 district election offices across the country. The EC, which began the registration drive on September 25, will continue it until November 16.
To register, eligible individuals must visit their respective election office or a designated voter registration centre with their citizenship certificate and provide biometric details. Applicants can also complete an online pre-registration to book their appointment in advance.
Only individuals who turn 18 years old by March 4—one day before the election—will be eligible to vote in the upcoming House of Representatives election.
