EC registers Ashok Kumar Rai-led JSP

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to register Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) with Ashok Kumar Rai as Chairperson.

A meeting of the EC held on Monday took the decision. The EC has also given a ‘certificate of registration’ to the new party.

Seven lawmakers of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal (JSPN) had lodged an application with the EC to register a new party on Sunday.

According to the EC, the new party was registered as per the Act Related to Political Parties, 2017 and Rule 5 of the Regulations Related to Political Parties, 2017.

Earlier, JSPN said in a statement that the party cannot be split on the basis of an illegitimate application lodged by some people with a divisive mentality.
