KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has proposed to hold the election for President on March 9.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya made the proposal during a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday, a source at the Election Commission said.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s term is ending on March 13.
The presidential election has to be held in such a way that the president-elect can assume office on the day the president’s term expires.
As per the Act Related to the Election of President and Vice President, 2017, the Election Commission has to fix the election date one month before the term of the president and vice president expires and inform the same to the government.
