KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has proposed holding the elections for the soon-to-be-vacant 19 seats of the National Assembly around January 24.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya proposed the date while speaking at the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives on Wednesday. “There is a need to hold the election on January 24, 25, or 26. The government should make the necessary decision for this,” Thapaliya added.
He also mentioned that the EC could also hold elections for the vacant seat in the House of Representatives, two seats in the provincial assembly, and 24 positions in local governments on the same date.
Nineteen seats in the National Assembly will become vacant on March 3. According to existing law, elections for these seats should be held one month before they become vacant.
