
KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has proposed to the government to hold by-elections to fill vacant seats in local governments in the second week of December.
A delegation of the EC led by Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Monday met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and held a discussion on the by-election to fill 34 vacant positions in local governments, including the Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality.
Oli told the EC to hold elections before the winter season begins, according to a source at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
Chief Secretary Lila Devi Gadtaula, PM Oli’s Chief Adviser Bishnu Prasad Rimal and Election Commissioners were present in the meeting.
