KATHMANDU: The Election Commission is preparing to submit an Act to make amendments to election laws in the federal parliament.
Stating that there is a need to revise election-related laws to hold elections smoothly, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said they would prepare a draft of integrated election law and submit it to the parliament for discussion and endorsement.
A study commissioned by the Election Commission after the 2017 election suggested revision in 82 laws, Thapaliya said. “We have started preparations to revise election-related laws in line with the suggestion of the study committee,” he added. “We will hold a discussion with all the stakeholders to prepare a draft of the integrated law.”
According to Thapaliya, the Election Commission is preparing to submit the draft in the ongoing session of the lower house.
