KATHMANDU: This Election Commission is distributing certificates to 110 lawmakers elected under the proportional representation (PR) system at its office in Kathmandu on Thursday.
According to Kul Bahadur GC, assistant spokesperson for the EC, preparations are underway to distribute certificates to the lawmakers elected from different clusters.
Out of 110 seats allotted under the PR system, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) won 57, the Nepali Congress (NC) 20, the CPN-UML 16, the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) nine, and the Shram Sanskriti Party (SSP) and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) four each.
“After distributing certificates to lawmakers elected under the PR system, the EC wil submit the final report of the 2026 House of Representatives election to President Ram Chandra Paudel on the same day,” GC said.
The election process is considered complete once the report is submitted the President.
The President will then call the parliamentary leader of a political party with a majority in the House of Representatives to form a new government as per Article 76(1) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015.
RSP, which won a combined 182 seats – 125 under FPTP system and 57 under the PR system – enjoys a comfortable majority to form a new government. The party went to the polls by naming former Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah as its prime ministerial candidate.
