KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has begun inviting political parties to point out errors in their closed lists of candidates under the proportional representation system for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.
According to Kul Bahadur GC, the assistant spokesperson for the EC, they will formally write to parties on Sunday to correct the shortcomings in their PR lists. “We are examining details such as whether the parties submitting closed lists have properly complied with the inclusive group (cluster) requirements and are holding discussions with the concerned party representatives,” GC said. “We held discussions with representatives from 12 parties on Wednesday. Another 12 parties have been invited for discussions on Thursday.”
Although 93 parties had applied to contest the election under the PR system, 64 submitted their closed lists of PR candidates. Of them, only 22 parties have filed nominations for all 110 seats.
The EC is providing parties a window of January 5-11 to correct the shortcomings in their PR lists identified by the EC. “We will review their lists again and officially publish the final lists on February 3,” GC added.
