Driving license validity to be raised to 10 years

KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to increase the validity of driving licenses to 10 years.

As per the existing provision, driving licenses have to be renewed every five years.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Prakash Jwala said on Tuesday that preparations are afoot to increase the validity of driving licenses. “Realizing that the existing provision requiring renewal after five years is troublesome, we have begun the process to amend laws to increase the validity to 10 years,” Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Prakash Jwala, said, addressing questions raised by lawmakers in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

“It is also expected to lower the pressure to print smart driving licenses,” said Jwala.

People have to wait for months to get their driving license because of infrastructure constraints.
