KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Vice-Chairperson and Deputy Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has instructed party-affiliated organisations not to engage in speculation over party leadership before the statute convention.
Addressing a meeting of the UML’s sister organizations on Wednesday, Paudel said that while the party is facing some challenges, they will be resolved through institutional procedures and party statute. “Let’s not discuss leadership issues before the statute convention,” he said. “Once the convention determines the process, we can discuss leadership. There is no leadership crisis in UML.”
He added that the current leadership is capable of resolving internal issues and added that UML is relatively more stable compared to other political parties in the country. “You won’t find a flawless party,” he remarked, “But UML has fewer internal issues. The current leadership is competent to address whatever challenges arise.”
Paudel added that the party is preparing for its upcoming Statute Convention. “This convention will define procedures to legally address organisational problems encountered since the previous convention,” he said. “The Central Committee will propose necessary amendments to the statute, which will be shared in advance with convention delegates for further deliberation.”
He called on all party members and affiliated organisations to actively contribute to party building. He added that the party’s sister organisations must play a vital role in strengthening the UML.
Also speaking on the occasion, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, in charge of the party’s organisational mechanism, said newly elected central committees of the sister organisations should work with renewed energy.
The meeting was attended by the in-charges, chairpersons, general secretaries and outgoing presidents of 16 sister organisations that recently held their conventions.
