Does placing someone on a seat make them a ruler? questions Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that attempts were being made to create instability in the country once again.

Addressing the Sudurpaschim Province Assembly meeting on Sunday, he expressed gratitude towards the major political parties for standing against such destabilizing efforts.

Oli described the statement made by former king Gyanendra Shah on Democracy Day as surprising and said that the country cannot be built on emotions alone. He added that rumors were being spread about reinstating the former king to the throne. “There are talks of bringing the former king back to the throne and reinstating Narayanhiti Palace. Does placing someone on a seat make them a ruler? Shouldn’t the people have a say in this?” Oli questioned. “President Ram Chandra Paudel has been elected and serves as the President. Does placing someone else on a seat make them a king?”

Oli said that the current constitution was not granted by any individual but was drafted by the Constituent Assembly elected by the people. “It is the responsibility of every one to strengthen the federal democratic republican system,” he added.

He urged everyone to respect the essence and sentiment of the system established by the constitution.
