DoC achieves 80.77% of six-month revenue target

KATHMANDU: The Department of Customs (DoC) has achieved 80.77% of its revenue target in the first six months of the current fiscal year.

The DoC unveiled the data during the 73rd International Customs Day celebrations in Kathmandu on Sunday.

During the first six months of 2024/25, the DoC raised Rs 226.47 billion, which is 80.77% of the Rs. 280.29 billion that the government had targeted to mobilize.

The total customs duty collection over the first six months of 2024/25 is 10.9% higher than what the department mobilized during the previous fiscal year. According to the DoC, it had mobilized Rs. 204.16 billion in the first six months of 2023/24.

The government has set the DoC a target of mobilizing Rs. 582.87 billion in 2024/25. The DoC met 38.87% of the target by the midpoint of the fiscal year.

Revenue Breakdown by Category:

  • Customs Duty: The department collected Rs 109.22 billion under this category, marking a 13.20% increase compared to the previous year, when Rs. 96.52 billion was collected.
  • Value Added Tax (VAT): Under this category, Rs. 93.17 billion was collected at customs points, reflecting a 4.4% increase from the previous year’s collection of Rs 89.24 billion.
  • Excise Duty on Imported Goods: Revenue collection under this category reached Rs 22.60 billion, a 22.80% increase compared to the previous year’s collection of Rs. 18.40 billion.
  • Green Tax: Introduced this fiscal year, Rs. 1.48 billion was collected under this new category during the same period.
