Diplomatic efforts launched to search for missing in Uttarakhand: Rana

KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba has instructed the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi to coordinate with Indian authorities to search for Nepalis missing in the recent floods in Uttarakhand State of India.

Writing a post on her social media page on Friday, Rana said the government has already launched diplomatic efforts to search for the missing. “I am deeply saddened by reports that several Nepali citizens are among those missing in the floods that struck Uttarakhand State of neighboring India a few days ago. The government has already begun diplomatic initiatives to locate and rescue them,” she said. “I have directed our embassy in New Delhi to work closely with the Indian government and act with urgency in the search and rescue of the missing Nepalis.”

According to Indian media reports, more than 50 people are missing after heavy floods in the Kheer Ganga River in Dharali in Uttar Kashi district on Tuesday. Five bodies have been retrieved so far.
